Counselor's Corner: Scholarships

Scholarships

Scholarships:

Chapter "Q" P.E.O. Scholarship:  Any graduating senior girl is eligible for this scholarship.  Applications are available in Mrs. O'Dell's office and are due by March 26, 2010.

Sara Jane Toomey Collins Scholarship:  The Sara Jane Toomey Collins Scholarship is a memorial scholarship in the amount of $500 for any graduating senior who plans to further their education.  Applications are available in Mrs. O'Dell's office and are due by March 26, 2010.

Curtis and Evelyn McKnight Scholarship:  The Curtis and Evelyn McKnight Scholarship is a memorial scholarship.  Two scholarships in the amount of $250 each are awarded to graduating seniors who plan to further their education after graduation.  One $250 scholarship is for any major and the other $250 scholarship is for a graduating senior who plans to major in agriculture.  Applications are available in Mrs. O'Dell's office and are due by March 26, 2010.

Lloyd R. Wallace Charitable Foundation Scholarship: See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.  Applications are due by April 14, 2010. 

Bob Kelly Memorial Scholarship:  The family of Bob Kelly would like to honor his memory by offering a scholarship.  Applicants must: be a graduating high school senior; be accepted by an accredited 2 or 4 year college, university or vocational technical school; and major in an agricultural field.  Winners will be notified in May.  Scholarships will be awarded on a one time basis and will not be renewable.  Applications are available in Mrs. O'Dell's office.  Deadline for applications is April 15, 2010.

Braymer Lions Club Scholarship:  Any graduating senior who is planning post-secondary education, either college or vocational technical school, is eligible to apply.  Applications are available in Mrs. O'Dell's office and are due by April 1, 2010.

Braymer C-4 Alumni Scholarship:  See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.  You must have attended the Alumni Banquet to be eligible for this scholarship.  Scholarship applications are due by April 15, 2010.

Delta Chi Sorority Scholarship:  Delta Chi sorority will award one $250 scholarship to a graduating senior.  Applications are available in Mrs. O'Dell's office and are due by March 26, 2010.

Harold Dean Prewitt Memorial Scholarship:  Harold Dean Prewitt was a 1961 Braymer High School graduate. He was captain of the football team, and made the All-Conference team.  This $500 scholarship has been established by his family to honor his memory.  This scholarship is for male football/athletes.  See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.  Applications are due by March 26, 2010.

MFA Scholarship:  MFA Foundation Scholarships are offered to high school seniors in communities where MFA agencies are located and are willing to contribute $350 to the MFA Foundation as joint sponsors of the scholarship.  The amount of the scholarship is $2,000 and is applied toward the student's freshman year of college.  It is not renewable.  See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.  Applications are due by March 15, 2010.

The Christian Connector Inc.:  The Christian Connector provides a FREE Christian college information service as well as a $2,500 Christian college scholarship drawing.  Students can simply log onto www.ChristianConnector.com to request information and automatically be entered in the $2,500 scholarship drawing.

Janice Cox-Proffitt Memorial Scholarship: To be eligible for this scholarship a student must:  be a resident of Ray County; have a GPA of 2.5 or higher; plan to attend a university, college, or technical school; if selected, must provide proof of enrollment to an educational institution before the scholarship money will be awarded.  Deadline is March 1, 2010. See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.

2010 Project 21 Scholarship Program:  The goal of this scholarship program is to not only inform our youth that it is not permissable in Missouri for persons under the age of 21 to gamble in a casino, but to also educate them about the dangers and consequences associated with underage gambling.  Project 21 2010 Scholarship Program provides students an opportunity to disseminate their message by writing an article or creating a poster or video addressing the issue of underage gambling.  Project 21 Scholarships will be awarded for 2010 as follows: Two $1,500.00 First Prizes, and Four $1,000.00 Second Prizes.  Applications are due by March 5, 2010.  Applications are available in Mrs. O’Dell’s office or can be downloaded at http://www.missouricasinos.org/pdfs/project_21.pdf.

Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. Scholarship (Mizzou Schol.):  The Robert J. Trulaske Sr. Scholarship targets students who are missing out on other scholarships, but who have still shown academic and professional promise.  Students who receive Bright Flight or other MU scholarships such as Curator, Excellence, or Brooks are ineligible.  Additional consideration will also be made for students who have dealt with various hardships while in high school which may have impacted their performance.  The stipend is $6,675.  Students must be admitted to MU with a declared Business or Accountancy interest, complete a FAFSA form by March 1, 2007, and return the completed application with your attached personal statement to the address below by February 1, 2010. 

Sam M. Walton Scholarship (Mizzou Schol.):  This is considered one of the top-flight business scholarships and targets students with outstanding academic credentials who are also interested in careers in retailing.  The stipend is $6,675.  Students must be admitted to MU with a declared Business interest, complete a FAFSA form by March 1, 2007, and return the completed Walton Scholarship Application with your attached personal statement and transcript(s) by February 1, 2010.  For more information, see Mrs. O’Dell.

American Legion Scholarships:  Go to www.missourilegion.org and click on Programs. 

Charles Hawkins Accounting Schol & the Karen Hawkins Memorial Accounting Schol (NWMSU Schol): The Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance at NWMSU is proud to announce the availability of two scholarships for in-coming, first semester freshmen.  These scholarships are awarded annually to two first semester freshmen majoring in accounting who will be attending NWMSU as full-time students.  This year’s awards will go to individuals who will be freshmen for the 2009-2010 academic school year.  The amount of each scholarship is $450. See Mrs. O’Dell for more information and/or applications.  Deadline for applications is February 1, 2010.

FCS Financial Scholarship:  Each year, FCS Financial awards up to thirty-five $1000 scholarships to Missouri seniors who are children and/or grandchildren of customers with FCS Financial through a loan or crop insurance program.  The criteria and application information is available on their website at www.myfcsfinancial.com.  Click on “About Us” then “Scholarship Program.”  The applications are due March 1, 2010.

Builder of  Men Scholarship (FarmHouse Fraternity):  This scholarship is open to incoming males to the University of Missouri-Columbia.  Recipient must be high in scholarship, leadership, determination, service, and character.  See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.  Deadline for applications is March 1, 2010.

Green Hills Companies Scholarship:  If you are a Green Hills Companies customer, your senior is eligible to apply for one of the thirty $2,500 scholarships.  FRS will fund $2,000 of each scholarship, with Green Hills funding the additional $500 for the students in our service area.  For more information see Mrs. O’Dell or go to http://www.frs.orgApplications must be returned to the Green Hills office by Thursday, February 12, 2010 for eligibility verification.  Students will be responsible for mailing the complete application package to FRS by March 1, 2010.

Missouri Teacher Education Scholarship:  This is a competitive, one-time, non-renewable scholarship of $2,000 to be used in one academic year.  This scholarship is contingent upon a match from the student’s chosen institution.  Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:  Be a Missouri resident, be a HS senior enrolled fulltime four-year college or university in Missouri, rank in the top 15% of their high school class or score in the top 15 national percentile (Composite of 26) on an ACT or SAT, and submit a completed application packet postmarked no later than February 15, 2010.  You may access information and the application for this scholarship from the DESE website at www.dese.mo.gov/divteachqual/scholarships.   

 

 

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship:  To be eligible to receive this scholarship an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:  This very competitive scholarship is for students who will be freshmen and may be renewed three times for a total of 4 years.  Students must be legal residents of Missouri and presently attending a high school in Missouri.  Must be accepted by fall 2007 for enrollment at an institution of higher education as defined in Institution Eligibility Regulations, Section 600.4.  Must present evidence that he or she received a test score at or above the 90th percentile on the ACT during a scheduled administration.  Must present evidence of GPA of the student’s high school graduating class (7th semester) in the case of a regularly enrolled high school senior.  Must file with the institution he/she intends to attend a statement of registration status certifying that he/she is registered with the selective service or that, for a specified reason, he/she is not required to be registered.  (These forms will be sent to those individuals receiving the scholarship).  Deadline for application is April 15, 2010.  (Last year’s recipients had ACT scores no lower than 32.)  Visit www.dese.mo.gov/divteachqual/scholarships

 

Urban Flight and Rural Needs Scholarship:  High quality teachers are significant in determining students’ academic achievement, and Missouri is dedicated to recruiting the very best educators.  The Urban Flight and Rural Needs Scholarship Program provide scholarships to eligible students who enter a teacher education program and make a commitment to teach as a condition of receiving the scholarship.  The scholarship will be applied toward the cost of eligible students’ tuition and fees, up to four years, at a two-year or four-year college or university located in Missouri.  To be eligible for the scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:  Be a United States Citizen, Be a resident of Missouri, and be a high school senior.  Candidates are selected on the basis of high school or college cumulative grade point average and financial need of the applicant.  Deadline for application is April 15, 2010.  Applications are available in Mrs. O’Dell’s office or go to www.dese.mo.gov/divteachqual/scholarships.

Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Scholarships: There are several scholarships on the DESE website.  Go to http://dese.mo.gov/divteachqual/scholarships/ 

Best Buy Scholarship Program:  The Best Buy Scholarship Program rewards students with good grades who give back to their communities.  Best Buy is giving 1,000 scholarships of $1,500 each.  To learn more or to apply visit www.bestbuy.com/scholarships or www.at15.com

Music and Broadcast Scholarships:  For more information go to www.theconclave.com or www.radioscholarships.com.  Broadcast candidates must submit their applications and demos by February 1st, 2010.  Music scholarship applications must be received by March 1st, 2010. 

Chillicothe Elk’s Lodge 656 Scholarship:  For more information on Elk’s Lodge Scholarship applications visit www.chillicotheelkslodge.com.  Once you are at the Chillicothe Elk's Lodge website, click on Elk Links, and it will take you straight to the scholarship information.  The Chillicothe Elks Scholarship is due on or before March 15, 2010.  For information regarding the Most Valuable Student Scholarship go to www.elks.org/enf.  

SAMMY 2010 Award Program:  The SAMMY 2009 Award Program recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the contiguous United States.  From now until March 5, 2010 teachers, coaches, principals, guidance counselors, athletic directors, parents and relatives are encouraged to nominate a student athlete for the SAMMY 2009 Award.  Additionally, all high school seniors are allowed and encouraged to nominate themselves for the SAMMY 2009 Award.  SAMMY 2009 applications will only be accepted online at www.bodybymilk.com until March 6, 2010. 

Missouri Heart Institute Scholarship:  The Missouri Heart Institute Board of Directors offers scholarships to high schools in the central Missouri area.  The scholarships are a one time, one thousand five hundred dollar ($1,500) scholarship paid directly to the student’s college or university of choice for tuition and fees.  To qualify, the student must be a graduating senior with a “B” or higher GPA and enrolling in a healthcare related program in the upcoming fall or summer semesters.  See Mrs. O’Dell for an application.  Deadline for application is April 1, 2010.

Past President Parley Nurses Scholarship:  The American Legion Auxiliary is offering two $500 scholarships to two high school students seeking to become a nurse.  Applicants must be a resident of Missouri and shall have graduated from high school in the mid-term or immediately before the Missouri Department Convention; applicant must be a member of a veteran’s family; applicant must be submitted through an auxiliary Unit to the President Parley Nurse’s Scholarship Chairman by April 1st.  See Mrs. O’Dell for an application.

Missouri United School Insurance Council (M.U.S.I.C.) Scholarship:  The Missouri United School Insurance Council (M.U.S.I.C.) encourages you to apply for the Dr. Darrell “Jack” Holley/MUSIC Scholarship.  Six scholarships of $2,000 each (nonrenewable) will be awarded to 2009 graduating seniors of districts that are MUSIC members.  See Mrs. O’Dell ASAP for an application.  Deadline is February 11, 2010. 

National Farmers Farm Kids for College Scholarship:  To be eligible for this scholarship applicants must:  be a high school senior; must be planning to major in an agricultural field at an accredited college or university.  See Mrs. O’Dell for an application.  Deadline is March 15, 2010.

Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Companies Scholarship: Midwest Preferred Mutual Insurance Company will pick five applications and submit them for consideration to the MAMIC scholarship committee.  This scholarship is worth $1,000.  Then Midwest Preferred Mutual Insurance will be giving two scholarships worth $500 each.  Therefore, all applicants have three opportunities to receive a scholarship.  See Mrs. O’Dell for applications.  Deadline is March 1, 2010.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Inc.:  Applicants must have a parent or grandparent who is/was a Marine or Navy Corpsman.  Deadline is March 1, 2010.

Construct My Future Scholarship: Are you interested in a career in the construction industry?  Apply to receive a $1,000 scholarship from ConstructMyFuture.com.  The deadline to apply has been extended to February 17, 2010.  Download an application at www.ConstructMyFuture.com or email info@constructmyfuture.com.

Northwest Chapter MSPE Engineering Scholarship: Applications for the Northwest Chapter MSPE Scholarship for entering freshmen are available at www.mspe.org/chapters/northwest.html. The deadline to apply is February 28, 2010.  Any senior interested in engineering should apply. 

Missouri Insurance Education Foundation Scholarship:  The Missouri Insurance Education Foundation Board has approved four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded to Missouri graduating high school seniors who will be full-time students in an accredited Missouri college or university and with an interest or intent of pursuing an insurance, risk management, or actuarial science course of study. See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.  Applications are due no later than March 31, 2010.

Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program:  For more information on this scholarship program and/or to download an application go to www.kohlskids.comScholarship applications will be accepted February 1 through March 15, 2010.

Caldwell County Mutual Insurance Co. Scholarship:  This company is offering a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors who plan to attend a secondary or trade school and whose parents currently have an insurance policy with this company.  Applications are due by April 10, 2010.  See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.

Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship (MIZZOU only):  Alpha Gamma Sigma has established a scholarship that is meant to reward male high school seniors who are intent upon attending the University of Missouri-Columbia.  See Mrs. O'Dell for an application.  Applications are due by June 1, 2010.

Financial Aid Estimator Tool:  FAFSA4caster

The FAFSA4caster provides students with an early estimate o10.5f their eligibility for federal student financial assistance.  Students considering furthering their education beyond high school can use this FREE tool.  To access FAFSA4caster, visit www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov.  Non-federal financial assistance programs and requirements often vary from school to school.  Always check with your school before applying for financial aid.
