Football practice has started, stores are advertising back-to-school sales, the state fair is in full swing, and its time for the start of another school year. On behalf of the school board, faculty, and staff, I would like to welcome every student and parent to the 2009-2010 school year at Braymer C-4.
As they do each summer, our custodial staff has worked very hard to prepare the building for the start of the new year. I would especially like to recognize our summer help – Jesse Hawkins and Caleb Shively – for doing an outstanding job.
We are welcoming four new staff members this year. Katherine Pogatshnik will be teaching Instrumental Music and Kasie Webb will be teaching Second Grade. Diedra Tullos has been hired to help us part-time in the cafeteria. Our new high school principal will be Mitch Barnes who comes to us from Plattsburg.
We will be adding a couple of new programs this year to improve communication between school and home. SchoolReach is a notification system that allows us to contact parents by phone to notify them of early-outs due to bad weather, school cancellations, special announcements, or other important information. When we need to contact parents, we will record a message and activate the system. SchoolReach will then send out the message by calling the parents that need to be notified. If the need arises, we will be able to contact all parents by phone in less than five minutes. We will also be adding a Parent Portal to our School Information System. Parents who apply for and receive a password will be able to access their child’s grade information over the internet. Parents will only be able to view their own child’s information. This program will give parents with internet access the opportunity to closely monitor their child’s academic progress throughout the year. Information on both of these new programs will be sent home shortly after the beginning of the school year.
I would also like to remind everyone of the district’s website – www.braymerbobcats.org. It is a great source of school information. You can find the school calendar, bulletins, sports schedules, lunch menus, Paw Prints, and lots of stories about what is going on here at school. Michelle Kelley is our web-master and she does a terrific job of keeping the site updated and interesting.
I am looking forward to the new school year and to serving the patrons of the Braymer C-4 School District as their superintendent. I want to thank Tom Anderson for all of his help in getting me on track in my new position. His phone number will continue to be on my speed dial. He has left some big shoes to fill and I will do my best to grow into them. Having been in the district for two years, I know that the community is very supportive of its school. I want to thank you for your past and continued support of our staff and students. We will continue to work hard to improve our school and provide a quality educational experience for the students of our community.
