Heroes Among Us

On Tuesday, February 28, 2012, Braymer School recognized three students, who in our community and the lives of the Daniel and Danielle Pennington family, are heroes.

Early Saturday morning on February 25, the Pennington home caught fire and burnt to the ground.  Only the lives of the family were saved due to the heroism of Dillon Hicks, Kyjuan Johnson and Joseph Webb.  Daniel and Danielle say that if the boys did not drive by at the exact moment that they did and beat on their door, that morning would have had a totally different outcome.  Possibly fatal.

Joe Mallory presented the boys with certificates, thanked, and congratulated them for their acts of courage on that morning.

The Pennington family spoke with their deepest gratitude to everyone in the community, especially to Dillon, Kyjuan, and Joseph.

Michelle Kelley, junior co-sponsor, presented a check for $100 to the Pennington family from the junior class.  Mrs. Kelley also replaced their yearbooks that were lost in the fire on behalf of the yearbook staff.

That early morning will be forever etched in the minds of so many, especially the Penningtons and the boys who woke them and possibly saved their lives.
